Welcome to the Climate Variability Workshop at COMET!

This workshop is the residence component of the Climate Professional Development Series (PDS). The course is primarily oriented toward Science and Operations Officers (SOOs) and other climate services focal points in the NWS WFOs and RFCs. The primary objective of the course is to develop a base level of understanding and application of climate cycles and variability, climate products and services at the local level. Workshop organizers include the course lead, Dr. Klaus Weickmann of CDC, and operational co-leads consisting of several WFO SOOs. Topics to be addressed during the workshop include, seasonal cycles and regimes, monsoonal systems, seasonal cycle variability, ENSO, MJO, QBO, teleconnections, monitoring and prediction. A significant part of the course will also address available products developed by CDC and CPC. Applications of principles and products will be practiced as part of classroom laboratory exercises.
