Hydrometeorology
Course Home Page
Welcome to the COMET Hydrometeorology Course Home Page. This course, designed primarily for operational hydrologists, provides an overview of hydrometeorology and meteorological events that produce both flash floods and systemic flooding. The principal objective is to increase participants' knowledge of the interaction between hydrology and meteorology during flood events and to enrich their knowledge of new hydrometeorologic observing systems. Taught at the upper-undergraduate level, the Hydrometeorology course provides an overview of mesoscale and synoptic-scale weather systems that can lead to heavy precipitation. Case studies illustrate hydrologic analysis and forecasting techniques for the flood event. The course will be offered four times in 2000 and is open to university faculty, private-sector meteorologists, and international visitors, as well as federal employees.
