Opportunities to Participate in the COMET® Program
COMET Residence Courses
Visiting scientific experts serve as lead instructors and guest presenters for COMET Residence Courses. Residence courses are 1 – 6 weeks in length and offer advanced hydrometeorological education in a classroom and forecasting laboratory environment. Participate by:
- Spending a sabbatical at the COMET Program
- Attending COMET faculty courses, special workshops or sypmposiums, or COMET courses
(on a space available basis)
- Teaching as a lead instructor or guest presenter in a COMET course
Distance Learning Materials
Scientific experts serve as subject matter experts for distance learning education materials. These materials, delivered primarily via the Web, provide continuing education in the atmospheric and related sciences. Participate by:
- Serving as a subject matter expert for distance learning materials
- Providing scientific or technical review of distance learning content
- Evaluating distance learning content from the perspective of an end user
- Spending a development sabbatical at the COMET Program
- Incorporating COMET distance learning materials, case studies, and/or material from
the COMET multimedia database into your own instructional offerings
- Participating in teletraining course offerings
- Participating in or serving as an instructor for COMET distance learning courses
Outreach Program
In order to advance applied research in meteorology, the Outreach
Program fosters partnerships between the academic research community
and operational weather forecasters. University members can participate
by:
- Submitting proposals in collaboration with National Weather Service
offices for:
- One-year research studies funded at an approximate level
of $10,000
- One- to three-year research and educational activities funded
at an approximate level of $35,000 per year
- Initiating, attending, or providing content for regional meteorology
workshops and symposia sponsored by the Outreach Program
